Winnipeg Jets Captain Could Return Soon

According to Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet, Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler could return to the lineup as soon as this weekend.

Wheeler has not played since Winnipeg's December 10th contest against the Vancouver Canucks. The 35-year-old winger sustained his knee injury during it. Although he hasn't played in over a month, he actually only has missed nine games so far because of how many postponements the Jets have faced.

The Jets certainly could use Wheeler back this weekend, as they are set to play the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins during it. Both of these Eastern Conference teams are having strong seasons and aren't expected to be an easy matchup. It also doesn't get any easier from there for the Jets, as they then play the Florida Panthers next Tuesday.

In 22 games this season, Wheeler has one goal, 16 assists, and a minus-1 rating. Once the veteran winger returns, he will be aiming to build on those totals nicely.
