Edmonton Oilers Lose Goaltender

The Edmonton Oilers have placed goaltender Mikko Koskinen in COVID protocol.

This is irritating timing for the Oilers, as they are just getting Mike Smith back from injured reserve. Thus, as soon as they got a goalie back, they immediately lost another from their primary tandem.

More frustratingly, Koskinen has really picked up his play over these last handful of starts. In his last five appearances, he has a 4-0-1 record and .920 save percentage. It's been nice to see him have a hot stretch of games, but this trip to COVID protocol will have to put that on pause.

As a whole, this season has been another hard one for Koskinen. In 26 appearances, he has a solid 16-8-2 record but also has a lackluster .900 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average. His struggles have also caused rumors to start up that the Oilers are looking to make an upgrade in net.

Alas, until Koskinen is ready to return, the team will run with Stuart Skinner as their backup.
