Maple Leafs Defenseman Placed On LTIR

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed Jake Muzzin on LTIR.

This was a predictable move, as it was announced on Tuesday that Muzzin would be out indefinitely. After a collision with Montreal Canadiens defenseman Chris Wideman, the 33-year-old's head hit the ice in a very scary fashion and sustained a concussion. It's also important to remember that he missed time earlier this season with a concussion, too.

With this move, the Maple Leafs now have $5.625 million of LTIR cap space that they are permitted to use. It officially opens the door for the Leafs to bring in a significant upgrade to their roster at the deadline because of it. It will be very intriguing to see how they handle it, as the trade market has several big-name players who could be excellent fits for the team.

Muzzin is still a notable loss on their blueline, however. He is one of their most experienced and important defensemen, so they will have to adjust with him being out of the lineup for a long period of time.

In 41 games this season, Muzzin has two goals, 10 assists, and a minus-8 rating.
