Montreal Canadiens Fire Head Coach

The Montreal Canadiens have fired head coach Dominique Ducharme. The team will also be announcing his replacement Thursday evening.

After replacing Claude Julien as head coach last season, Ducharme lead the Canadiens to a shocking Stanley Cup Final appearance. From here, he was signed to a three-year extension for the role. Yet, he didn't even make it past the season of his contract, and it's easy to understand why. They currently sport an 8-30-7 record and just lost to the New Jersey Devils by a 7-1 final score on Wednesday night.

Jeff Gorton originally noted that he wouldn't bring in a new coach until the offseason, but now that has since changed. Perhaps the hiring of new general manager Kent Hughes changed Gorton's mind. It also didn't help Ducharme's case that the Canadiens have been playing extremely poorly.

Alas, Ducharme's time with the Canadiens ends with a 23-46-14 record.
