NHL Rumors: Avalanche To Trade Top Prospect

If the Colorado Avalanche make a big splash before the trade deadline, defenseman Justin Barron will likely be heading the other way, according to Frank Seravalli.

Barron is viewed as one of the Avalanche's top prospects, so it's understandable that many teams would want to add him. The 20-year-old defenseman was selected with the 25th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and is viewed as having top-four potential. Those are the kind of prospects all sellers want to have.

Barron is currently in his first full season with the Colorado Eagles. In 31 games, he has four goals to go along with 12 assists. Overall, he is producing well from the backend at the AHL level and should eventually be able to in the NHL, too. He also has appeared in two games with the Avalanche but has yet to record his first career point.

The Avalanche have been linked to Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux, so perhaps we will see Barron end up heading there. Yet, there also could be other big-name players who Colorado will target this deadline season. No matter what happens, just don't be surprised to see Barron as the notable prospect heading the other way in a blockbuster.
