NHL Rumors: Blues To Trade Forward

If the St. Louis Blues make a big splash at the trade deadline, Oskar Sundqvist could be a roster player who heads the other way.

In his recent Trade Deadline War Room piece, Frank Seravalli noted that Sundqvist is a player on the Blues who could potentially be available for the taking. If a selling team were to acquire him, he would be more than a rental, as his contract doesn't expire until the completion of the 2022-23 campaign. With that, he also carries a $2.75 million cap hit.

Sundqvist is a very solid bottom-six forward who certainly could get a decent amount of attention on the market. In 32 games this season, he has four goals, nine assists, and a plus-8 rating. Although he isn't particularly dominant offensively, he is known for working well on the penalty kill.

With the Blues looking to find a partner for Colton Parayko, it likely will cost them a player from their NHL roster. The Blues have enough depth where they could part ways with Sundqvist, but it only would make sense if they are making a big upgrade to their lineup elsewhere. Alas, let's see what comes to fruition this March.
