NHL Rumors: Capitals Interested In Canadiens Forward

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Washington Capitals are linked to Montreal Canadiens forward Artturi Lehkonen.

The Canadiens are set to be major sellers at the trade deadline, and the truth is in their record. At this time, they are 12-33-7 and have the second-fewest points in the NHL. This was not what was expected of them for this campaign, so they are understandably going to be making multiple changes to their roster. Lehkonen may still be a restricted free agent at season's end, but his name has still come up in the rumor mill regardless.

The Capitals are looking pretty strong on paper, but they should be aiming to add at least one forward to their bottom six. Lehkonen is an ideal candidate, as he not only is an effective defensive forward, but he is also capable of producing decent secondary scoring. In 49 contests this season, he has seven goals to go along with 13 helpers. That's not bad production in the slightest.

When looking at how competitive the Metropolitan Division is, the Capitals should be aiming to make upgrades to their current roster. Although goaltending is a major focus point for them, it wouldn't hurt to add a player like Lehkonen. Let's see if they end up winning the sweepstakes.
