NHL Rumors: Flames Interested In Reunion With Former Captain

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Calgary Flames are expressing interest in bringing back Mark Giordano from the Seattle Kraken.

The Flames of course lost Giordano to the Kraken at last summer's expansion draft. He immediately became an important player for Seattle, as he currently is their captain and best defenseman. Yet, the 38-year-old has an expiring contract, and the Kraken are completely out of the playoff picture. With this, they are going to be sellers at the deadline, and Giordano is their biggest trading piece.

It isn't surprising that the Flames have called the Kraken about Giordano. He of course played his first 15 seasons in the NHL with them and was their captain for eight of them. Furthermore, the Flames have a 30-13-6 record and are one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Acquiring Tyler Toffoli showed us that they are looking to win a Stanley Cup this spring. However, they still haven't found a high-impact replacement for Giordano on the blueline.

Why not replace Giordano with, well, Giordano?

In 46 games this season, Giordano has five goals to go along with 17 assists. Yet, it also is important to note that he has been heating up significantly since his very slow start. Therefore, he is trending in the right direction, so there should be a lot of interest in him as we get closer to the deadline. Let's see if a reunion comes to fruition between him and the Flames.
