NHL Rumors: Flames Interested In Canadiens Forward

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Calgary Flames are interested in Montreal Canadiens forward Tyler Toffoli. He even went on to note that "a lot of people" believe that the winger will end up there before the trade deadline.

The Flames are on the hunt for secondary scoring, and Toffoli fits that description wonderfully. When looking at their current lineup, it's fair to state that the 29-year-old could replace Blake Coleman in the top six. In general, though, Calgary would benefit from adding a right winger of any kind, as their depth at that position isn't among the strongest.

With how horribly the Canadiens' season has gone, it wouldn't be too surprising to see them trade a decent chunk of their veterans away. Toffoli would be far more than a rental for the Flames, though, as he has two years left on his contract after this one and carries a $4.25 million cap hit. This is what is making him such an appealing player on the market right now.

In 35 games this season, Toffoli has nine goals, 17 assists, and a minus-5 rating. Although the goal totals are low for his standards, he is still contributing well offensively with his assists. Thus, he would make for a nice addition if Calgary successfully acquires him. We will have to wait and see what happens on that front.
