NHL Rumors: Hurricanes To Have Extension Talks With Forward

Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun that he plans to begin extension talks with Vincent Trocheck shortly.

Waddell and Trocheck previously had extension talks at the beginning of the season, but a deal of course did not come to fruition. However, it's clear that there is a great match between the team and the 28-year-old forward, so it makes sense that they are willing to go down this avenue again. Hopefully, this time, Carolina can get the forward to sign an extension for their sake.

Trocheck has once again been having a very solid season. In 42 games thus far, he has 11 goals, 19 assists, and a plus-11 rating. His two-way play and faceoff skills have also been very beneficial for Carolina this campaign, too. When looking at how they sport a 31-9-2 record, Waddell should work hard to keep this roster together as best as he can. However, Trocheck is also due for a notable raise from his current $4.75 million AAV, so that will make things harder.

Trocheck has the chance to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer. However, if the Hurricanes have it their way, they won't have to worry about losing him shortly. Let's see if they can get a deal in place.
