NHL Rumors: Kings Interested In Canadiens Defenseman

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Los Angeles Kings are interested in Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot.

The Kings aren't the only team interested in Chiarot, however, as Friedman noted that the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, and Calgary Flames also are, too. Therefore, the Kings have a lot of competition in the sweepstakes.

The Kings sported a 21-28-7 record last season and were near the bottom of the NHL standings. Yet, they have taken a big step forward this season, as they have a 24-16-7 record and are third in the Pacific Division. Due to this, the potential to be buyers is there, so it makes sense that they are at least considering Chiarot.

The Kings have been dealing with a lot of injury trouble on the blueline, so it's fair to say that they could use some more depth. Chiarot would be an excellent addition, as he's a very solid defenseman who plays a heavy game. He also has a decent chunk of playoff experience, too.

In 44 games this season, Chiarot has five goals, four assists, and 95 hits. Although he is currently out with an injury, it has been deemed as a short-term one, and the Canadiens believe he will be back next week. Thus, it shouldn't impact him from here, so Los Angeles still can pursue him without much risk.
