NHL Rumors: Kraken Officially Planning To Trade Captain

According to Pierre LeBrun, Mark Giordano and the Seattle Kraken have had a conversation about the captain's future with the team. Following it, they both came to the conclusion that a trade is the best course of action from here.

Giordano is a pending unrestricted free agent. With this, the Kraken are also completely out of the playoff picture, as they sport a 16-33-5 record. Because Giordano is 38 years old and never won a Stanley Cup, it makes sense that he wants to be moved to a contender. Although he is still a very effective defenseman, he likely doesn't have too many more chances to add one to his excellent resume.

Giordano is still a very good defenseman, and the truth is in his stats. In 48 games this season, he has six goals to go along with 17 helpers. Yet, one also should note that he has recorded 11 points in his last 16 games. Therefore, he is heating up and at the perfect time for Seattle. It will only help increase his trade value.

There have already been teams calling about Giordano, but now they should be even more aggressive given this latest development. Keep an eye on the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, and Florida Panthers. They are all currently linked to him.
