NHL Rumors: Senators Defenseman Staying Put

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Ottawa Senators are not going to be trading Artem Zub before the deadline passes.

Although it has already been established that the Senators will once again be sellers, Zub will not be on the move. They have an abundance of pending unrestricted free agents who most likely will be. Some of their potential rental candidates include Nick Paul, Chris Tierney, and Anton Forsberg. They could find new homes soon, but Zub will not.

There's no real reason for the Senators to trade Zub. He is already locked up for next season and has an affordable $2.5 million cap hit. With that, he has become a big part of their top pair and is playing very well in the process.

In 48 games this season with the Senators, Zub has four goals, 10 assists, and a plus-5 rating. Those are solid numbers from the 26-year-old, as he not only is contributing offensively but also staying responsible in the process.

It will be interesting to see what kind of trades the Senators make from here, but Zub won't be involved in them.
