NHL Rumors: Teams Interested In Oilers Forward

According to Bob Stauffer, multiple teams are calling the Edmonton Oilers about the availability of forward Warren Foegele.

The Oilers just acquired Foegele this past offseason from the Carolina Hurricanes. In 42 games thus far, he has five goals, 10 assists, and a minus-15 rating. His production has slowed down a bit as the year has continued. Due to this, he also recently was demoted to the fourth line.

Yet, it's hard to determine if the Oilers would actually be willing to trade Foegele so early on in his tenure with the team. He is in the first year of his three-year, $8.25 million contract, so they certainly do not have to rush things. Yet, if they also are looking to make a notable addition to their lineup, he could be one of the pieces that head the other way.

At this time, the Oilers have a 23-16-3 record and are trying to cement themselves a playoff spot. At this juncture, they are four points behind the Calgary Flames for the second Wild Card spot. They also trail the third-place Anaheim Ducks by six points but have six games in hand on them. Thus, they are a team that the Oilers could leapfrog. Therefore, we could see the Oilers make some notable moves at the deadline.

When it comes to Foegele, it will be interesting to see what happens. It does seem a bit too early to give up on him, but ultimately, that will be up to general manager Ken Holland.
