Penguins Star Enters COVID Protocol

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has been placed in COVID protocol.

Malkin just returned to the Penguins' lineup last month after missing the entire beginning of the season. The future Hall of Famer had knee surgery during the offseason and naturally, healing from it was a long process. Yet, he hasn't looked too rusty since returning, as he has five goals and eight assists in 12 games. Having him remain as a point-per-game player is great to see, but for now, it will have to be put on pause.

Given Malkin's injury trouble, it is hard to hear that he will have to sit out again. Thankfully this time, it is obviously for a far less amount of time and isn't injury-related. However, the Penguins are playing the Boston Bruins on Saturday night, and that isn't expected to be an easy game.

At this time, the Penguins have a 27-11-8 record and are third in the Metropolitan Division. They are two points behind the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers, so they are in striking distance to pass them. However, they now will be trying to do that without one of their best players in Malkin.
