Ducks Claim Defenseman Off Waivers

The Anaheim Ducks have claimed Andrej Sustr off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

This will be Sustr's second stint with the Ducks, as the 31-year-old defenseman spent the 2018-19 campaign with the organization. In five games with the team, he had zero points and an even rating.

Sustr will provide the Ducks with more depth on the blueline from here. It is understandable why Anaheim would claim him, as the futures of Hampus Lindholm and Josh Manson with the team are hard to predict. GM Pat Verbeek noted that he will trade them if they do not sign extensions before the deadline, so they now have extra insurance if that does indeed occur.

Yet, even if they both stay put, Sustr will still provide them with another solid option. In 15 games this season with the Lightning, the 6-foot-7 d-man has one goal and a minus-1 rating. At a minimum, he can be the team's seventh defenseman but also could even play bottom-pair minutes if needed.

Nevertheless, this is a good little depth move by the Ducks.
