Maple Leafs And Flyers Complete Trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Brennan Menell to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations.

Menell will provide the Flyers with more depth in the AHL. In 20 games this season with the Toronto Marlies, he has one goal, four assists, and 15 penalty minutes. Understandably, the Leafs have opted to move the 24-year-old d-man, as Phillippe Myers has been loaned to the Marlies by the Nashville Predators. Thus, they needed to open up a spot for him and viewed Mennell as expendable.

Menell is an interesting player, as he just had a 38-point campaign in 47 games with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL last season. With that, he also had 47 points in 57 games with the Iowa Wild the year before. Thus, he showed recently that he can produce from the backend, so perhaps he will be able to do the same with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

In five career games with the Minnesota Wild, Menell has zero points and a plus-1 rating.

Alas, it's always fun to see a move after the trade deadline occur.
