NHL Rumors: Bruins Finalizing Extension With Defenseman

Although Hampus Lindholm has yet to play a game with the Boston Bruins, they are expected to commit to him long-term. According to Chris Johnston, the team is set to sign the 28-year-old defenseman to an eight-year extension that will have an AAV of around $6.5 million.

On Saturday, the Bruins acquired Lindholm and Kodie Curran from the Ducks in exchange for their 2022 first-round pick, 2023 and 2024 second-round picks, Urho Vaakanainen, and John Moore. It certainly was a big package that Boston sent the other way, but it's important to note that the extra second was for them taking on Moore's contract. Furthermore, with this development, Lindholm will be more than a rental.

Once this deal is finalized, the Bruins will have their top pair locked up for the next eight years, as they signed Charlie McAvoy to a max extension earlier this season, too. Furthermore, they desperately have needed a high-impact left-handed defenseman, and now they have one in Lindholm.

Alas, don't be surprised to see this extension announced very shortly.
