NHL Rumors: Rangers Open To Moving Young Defenseman

If the New York Rangers make a big splash before the deadline passes, it very well could include defenseman Nils Lundkvist, according to Frank Seravalli.

The Rangers have been linked to several big-name players on the trading block, and that ultimately makes sense. At this point of the season, they have a 36-17-5 record and are second in the Metropolitan Division. Although they have been successful, they also would benefit from adding another high-impact player before the deadline passes. With the team already having a strong blueline and another good prospect in Braden Schneider, it could elect them to move Lundkvist.

Lundkvist is currently playing his first season in North America. In 25 games with the Rangers, he has one goal, three assists, and a plus-4 rating. He currently is back with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he has three goals and eight assists in 20 contests. The potential to be a good offensive defenseman is there, so there is risk in moving the 21-year-old.

However, if the team wants to make a game-changing splash, Lundkvist appears to be one of the most likely prospects to be dealt.
