Stars Top Defenseman Out Indefinitely

Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen will be out indefinitely due to mononucleosis.

This is terrible timing for the Stars. Heiskanen is their best defenseman, and they are currently trying to cement themselves a spot in the playoffs. At this point of the campaign, they have a 32-21-3 record and hold the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The Edmonton Oilers trail them by one point. The Stars are also just two points behind the Minnesota Wild for the third-place spot in the Central Division. Needless to say, things are extremely close and wins are needed.

The recovery timeline for mononucleosis can vary based on one's specific symptoms, so it's hard to determine when Heiskanen will be back. The 22-year-old hasn't played since March 2nd's contest against the Los Angeles Kings because of it.

In 52 games this season, Heiskanen has four goals, 25 assists, and a plus-1 rating. It has been an excellent season for the young star, so Dallas will miss him a lot in their lineup. Let's see how they perform without him from here.
