NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots For Phil Kessel

Throughout the entire season, Arizona Coyotes forward Phil Kessel was a big name in the rumor mill. Yet, the team did not find an offer that fit their expectations, so they elected to keep the veteran around for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. However, he is now set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and will have the chance to play elsewhere - if he actually wishes to. Let's look at some potential landing spots for him now.

Arizona Coyotes: I wouldn't necessarily count out the possibility of Kessel and the Coyotes agreeing to a new contract for next season. Arizona needs to ensure that they hit the cap floor, and it wouldn't be bad to keep a familiar face around during their rebuild. With that, Kessel is aiming to beat Keith Yandle's 989-game Ironman Streak. If he sticks with the Coyotes, he would have a permanent spot in their lineup to help pass it.

Nashville Predators: At the trade deadline, the Nashville Predators were aggressively pursuing Phil Kessel. Although a trade was not finalized, perhaps this is an avenue that the Preds could explore again. Kessel would provide them with another middle-six winger and dangerous weapon on their power play.

New York Rangers: The Rangers were also linked to Kessel numerous times during this season. The right wing position is an area where they could use a little jolt, and the Wisconsin-native would give them just that.
