NHL Rumors: Blackhawks Star Open To Extension Talks

According to Ben Pope, Chicago Blackhawks star Alex DeBrincat is open to starting extension talks with the team once he's permitted to this summer.

DeBrincat is heading into the final season of his contract and carries a $9 million qualifying offer. In terms of his play, he certainly has earned that kind of raise and then some, as he has emerged into a top-of-the-line sniper in the NHL. This season has been no different, either, as he has 41 goals and 36 helpers in 80 contests.

Yet, with the Blackhawks rebuilding, there have also been rumblings that the Blackhawks could be willing to move DeBrincat. The 24-year-old is their best trading asset, and when looking at the haul they received for Brandon Hagel from the Tampa Bay Lightning, they could get even more for DeBrincat.

Nevertheless, GM Kyle Davidson has a big decision to make when it comes to DeBrincat. Perhaps the Michigan-native being open to an extension will make the GM opt to keep him around.
