NHL Rumors: Bruins To Shop Forward

According to the Boston Globe's Matt Porter, the Boston Bruins could end up shopping Craig Smith this summer.

Smith is about to enter the final year of his contract and carries a $3.1 million cap hit. He put together another solid regular season for the Bruins, as he had 16 goals to go along with 36 points. Yet, he also failed to record a point in seven playoff games, so he ended the year in a rather poor fashion.

The Bruins have several issues to address and need to free up cap space to do that. Thus, that could make the 32-year-old winger expendable if another team puts up a solid enough offer.

The Bruins have youngsters in their system who could take over Smith's spot on the third line, too. One prospect who stands out of the bunch is Fabian Lysell. The 2021 first-round pick just recorded 21 points in 12 playoff games for the Vancouver Giants, so he will definitely receive some NHL consideration next season.

Nevertheless, time will tell if the Bruins elect to trade Smith this summer.
