Canadiens Sign Defenseman To Extension

The Montreal Canadiens have signed Chris Wideman to a two-year contract extension.

After being out of the NHL for two straight seasons, Wideman inked a one-year deal with the Canadiens during the offseason. Overall, it's fair to say that the 32-year-old defenseman exceeded expectations, as he put up some solid offensive totals on a very bad Canadiens team. In 64 games, he scored four goals to go along with 23 assists. Thus, he has earned this extension.

With the Canadiens now rebuilding, there's no harm in them keeping a player like Wideman around. He ended up being a solid fit in Montreal, so let's see if he can keep this kind of play up over these next two seasons.
