Done Deal: Vegas Sends Dadonov To Canadiens

On the day that Bruce Cassidy was introduced as the Vegas Golden Knights' new head coach, the team has made another big announcement: They've sent Evgenii Dadonov to the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for Shea Weber—or, essentially, Shea Weber's contract.

Foot and ankle injuries led to Weber, one of the most accomplished defenseman in the NHL, to miss the entire season, and it's doubtful he'll ever play again. He still had four years, at $7.8M annually, left on his contract. He is only owed a total of $6M however for the balance of the contract. $6M that the Habs will now shed from their payroll.

33-year-old Dadonov has just one year at $5M left on his contract.

Vegas attempted to move Dadonov to Anaheim at the trade deadline, until the deal was voided due to his modified no-trade clause. He finished with 20 goals and 43 points in 78 games with the Golden Knights.

The Ducks, being the victims of the botched trade, added their hilarious two cents to the news:

Yes, pretty sure this time Dadonov is officially moving on from Vegas.
