NHL Rumors: Hurricanes Could Be Forced To Trade Defenseman

According to Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes may have no choice but to trade pending RFA Tony DeAngelo due to their limited cap space.

Before this season, DeAngelo's future in the NHL was in question. He of course was kicked off the New York Rangers last season after he caused controversy in their locker room. However, the Hurricanes were willing to take a shot on him despite his bad reputation, and it was a gamble that paid off. In 64 games on the year, the 26-year-old scored 10 goals and recorded 51 points.

DeAngelo has earned himself a serious raise from his $1 million salary, but that likely can't happen in Carolina. We will have to wait and see what happens from here with the 2014 first-round pick.
