NHL Rumors: Penguins To Trade Defenseman

The Pittsburgh Penguins are heading into a crucial offseason, as they need to re-sign longtime core players Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. Due to their limited cap space, they will have to move salary out to make that happen. As a result of this, one player who could be on the move is John Marino, according to Frank Seravalli.

Marino is a player who many teams would express interest in. The 25-year-old has proven that he can play top-four minutes if called upon. It also doesn't hurt that he carries an affordable $4.4 million contract until the end of the 2026-27 season.

It will be intriguing to see if the Penguins end up trading Marino. Their current salary cap trouble and notable pending UFAs may force them to do just that.
