Sharks Sign Defenseman To Entry-Level Deal

The San Jose Sharks locked up their 2021 fourth round pick Gannon Laroque to a three-year entry-level deal worth $2.775 million.

Laroque has played 87 games in the WHL over the past three seasons and really elevated his game to the next level in 2021-22 by scoring 10 goals and 52 points in 63 games as a defenseman. He added 71 penalty minutes to the mix with his 6'2 frame.

He was called up to the AHL to play three games for the San Jose Barracuda at the end of the season where he recorded an assist. It will be some time before he gets a sniff in the NHL, if at all, but it's always a good sign when teams see development in their drafted players and continue on with them in the organization. Nobody ever knows if a player will eventually break out, and Laroque has the potential to do so with the major steps he took last season.

He is one of only 10 signed defenseman in the Sharks' organization for next season, so they have some work to do and aren't likely done adding young talent.
