Anaheim Ducks To Sign Top Free-Agent Defenseman

According to Kevin Weekes, John Klingberg is close to signing a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks at around $7 million. With that, The Athletic's Eric Stephens has confirmed that this is set to occur.

Klingberg was viewed as one of the top free agents in this year's class but failed to find a new home on the first day of the offseason. It had been reported that Klingberg was seeking a max-term deal, but after being on the market for over two weeks, he has now settled for a short-term contract.

Klingberg will be heading into the 2022-23 season with the goal of putting together a strong year. If he racks up the points in Anaheim, he should be able to get a deal with term next summer. Alas, let's see how he does with the Ducks from here.
