Capitals Sign Defenseman To Extension

The Capitals have signed Lucas Johansen to a two-year contract extension. He will have an AAV of $762,000.

Johansen is trying to cement himself as an NHL defenseman. The 2016 first-round pick played in his first contest for the Capitals this season, where he recorded an assist. With that, he scored eight goals and had 28 points in 62 games with the Hershey Bears,

Overall, Johansen put together a solid campaign and has earned this extension as a result of this. It will be intriguing to see if he can make Washington's roster out of camp. If not, he should be a solid call-up option throughout the season.
