NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Filip Forsberg

Filip Forsberg is one of the most talented players expected to hit free agency when the market opens on July 13. The Nashville Predators would love to have Forsberg back in the fold, but from all accounts it sounds like he's interested in testing the waters this summer. If Forsberg makes it to next week unsigned, look for these three teams to be aggressive in their pursuit:

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken are expected to take runs at the biggest names on the board, Forsberg included. This also includes the likes of Johnny Gaudreau and Nazem Kadri. Forsberg may not be interested in leaving Nashville for a mediocre team at best, so it will be curious to see if money talks here. The Kraken kept cap space a priority when they selected their roster and now have a chance to pounce. Forsberg is a consistent scorer, putting up 42 goals and 84 points in 69 games. This would have led the Kraken by a country mile.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are a team to watch because they are the best team with the most amount of cap space. Management has close to $20 million to spend this offseason and have a desire to add an impact player up front. Ideally it's a center because Vincent Trocheck is expected to walk, however they can shift some things around and make room for Forsberg. The Hurricanes need some more fire power to get over the hump as their defense and goaltending is solid enough to win. Keep an eye here as Forsberg to the 'Canes makes a ton of sense for both sides.

Dallas Stars

The Stars aren't messing around this summer as they have a new outlook on life. Management is trying to find a first-line right-winger to play with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn and Forsberg may be the perfect fit. The Stars have lots of cap space with $18.5 million currently available, even though they have some big contract extensions to handle with Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson. Regardless, they should have room for Forsberg.
