NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Interested in Signing Claude Giroux

The Claude Giroux sweepstakes are going to be fun to watch. The veteran forward is a character teammate who brings a ton to any dressing room he enters. The 34-year-old showed he's not slowing down anytime soon with his recent performance with the Florida Panthers and now he's set to hit the open market on July 13. Giroux will hear from a number of teams, however it sounds like three are going to heavily pursue him:

Ottawa Senators

From the moment leaving the Philadelphia Flyers become reality, the Ottawa Senators have been waiting with open arms for Giroux. He's from the area and has been linked to finishing his career 'at home'. The Sens have a ton of cap space and a willingness for relevance so it could be a nice fit for a number of Ottawa's young forwards.

Edmonton Oilers

While goaltending is on top of mind for Oilers general manager Ken Holland, they would love to add a player of Giroux's caliber to their top six. He'd bring a ton of character and versatility to the lineup and he showed with his Stanley Cup Playoff performance with the Florida Panthers, there's still lots left in the tank. With Jesse Puljujarvi sounding like he's on his way out of town, Giroux would be a nice replacement in Edmonton.

Carolina Hurricanes

With the likelihood of Vincent Trocheck leaving town, the Carolina Hurricanes like what Giroux brings to the table. The team is structured and very well coached and a right-handed center who can play the wing would be a win for the Canes. They lack game-changing talent up front has hurt the team in the past and Giroux would help push the needle for the team to get over the hump.
