NHL Rumors: Jack Campbell Target #1 for Western Conference Team

Pending free-agent netminder Jack Campbell is going to have some interested teams calling him on July 13, however perhaps nobody will be more open to signing the veteran goalie more than the Edmonton Oilers.

General manager Ken Holland recently admitted he had lunch with last season's starter Mike Smith and the veteran is banged up and not likely to play next season. Meanwhile Mikko Koskinen has left the NHL for Europe and Campbell has come into the picture as the team's best option.

The 30-year-old is coming off a great regular season in Toronto and a little bit of a shaky postseason, meanwhile the Oilers are hopeful he can bring everything the team needs to get over the hump. Campbell's looking for roughly $5.5 million per season on a long term deal, so with Edmonton only having just over $7 million available in cap space and with several holes to fill, there's no doubt some trades could also be coming down the pipe for the Oilers.

Jesse Puljujarvi and Tyson Barrie are two names to watch on the trade block in Edmonton. Holland is focused on getting his team a starting goaltender for now and the future and by the sounds of it is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the 'Soup' is on in Edmonton this summer.
