Senators Buy Out Forward

Colin White's time as an Ottawa Senator is officially over. The club has placed the 2015 first-round pick on unconditional waivers. With this, he is set to be bought out of his contract.

After an impressive 41-point campaign in 71 games for the Senators during the 2018-19 season, White signed his six-year, $28.5 million ($4.75 AAV) contract extension with Ottawa. After signing it, White was never able to replicate that kind of offense. Injury trouble played a role in this. During this past season, he only suited up in 24 games, where he had three goals and 10 points.

The Senators will only have a salary cap charge of $875,000 for five out of the next six seasons due to buying out White's contract. Interestingly, they will actually save $625,000 during the 2024-25 season due to the way White's contract is structured.

It will be intriguing to see where White ends up from here. With him still being only 25 years old, he could be a player worth taking a chance on.
