Blue Jackets Sign Forward to Multi-Year Deal

The Columbus Blue Jackets have come to terms with forward Emil Bemstrom on a two-year contract extension worth $900,000 per season.

The deal wraps up all the internal business the Blue Jackets needed to complete as Bemstrom is the last of their restricted free agents to sign a new deal. The versatile winger appeared in 41 games last season, recording six goals and 11 points.

Bemstrom missed the first two months of the 2021-22 with an oblique strain and was able to get on track once he was comfortable in his role. Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen had this to say about Bemstrom's new deal:

Emil is a skilled and offensive forward who has the ability to find the back of the net with an accurate shot. He is young and still developing but we believe he has a lot of potential to become an important part of our organization over the next few seasons

The former fourth-round pick of the Blue Jackets has appeared in 117 career NHL games, recording 19 goals and 36 points. He'll look to make a bigger impact next season as there's a lot of anticipation brewing in Columbus after the team signed free-agent forward Johnny Gaudreau to a massive contract.
