NHL Rumors: Blackhawks & Maple Leafs Discussed Patrick Kane Trade

According to Leafs Updates, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks have held a brief conversation regarding Blackhawks legend Patrick Kane.

As rocky as their relationship may have started with the Marc-Andre Fleury trade rumors, Blackhawks general manager (GM) Kyle Davidson and Leafs GM Kyle Dubas have shown they've put the past behind them by completing the Petr Mrazek deal earlier this summer. Now talks of Kane, which have been rumored for some time as we've been covering the possibility of the superstar winger landing in Toronto for months.

Chicago is entering a rebuild that's likely going to be a five-year tear down. Kane is a pending unrestricted free agent and is looking forward to the next chapter of his career. While he may be getting 'up there' by turning 34 years old one month into this upcoming season, Kane can still get the job done with the best of them. The Blackhawks legend put up 92 points in 78 games last season and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Toronto is stocked with top prospects and some young roster players so there's no doubt they have the means to complete the deal. It's all going to come down to where Kane wants to waive his no-movement clause for. So far the Edmonton Oilers and Maple Leafs are the two hottest rumors, months after all anyone was talking about were the New York Rangers.

For now we know where Kane will start the season, however don't expect to see him playing in the windy city after the trade deadline next spring.
