NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers Linked to Free-Agent Forward

According to Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal the Edmonton Oilers have held discussions with free-agent forward Sam Gagner.

Gagner is a familiar face to Oilers fans as he was originally drafted by Edmonton, sixth overall at the 2007 draft. The 33-year-old forward went on to play the parts of nine seasons with the Oil in two separate stints.

Gagner spent last season with the Detroit Red Wings where he enjoyed a fine season, recording 31 points in 81 games, while playing more of a checking role than he's used to. Gagner was used primarily as a penalty killer and has transformed his game over the years after coming into the league as an offensive talent.

Other teams who have shown interest include the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks. It's likely we see Gagner sign a one-year deal at the league minimum for the 2022-23 season.
