NHL Rumors: Flames Have Interest In 2 UFA Forwards

The Calgary Flames don't seem to be done adding just yet as they were in on Phil Kessel before he signed with the Vegas Golden Knights. There are two free agents of interest to the Flames and they are the two best and most intriguing options left unsigned.

The Flames have Sonny Milano and Evan Rodrigues in their sights. There have been talks that the team would like to add another top-six winger, but both of these players would fit much better on the third line. They each have the talent to be able to move up though.

Going back to last season, Rodrigues was tasked with a huge job of filling in the top-six while Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were injured. Rodrigues did so much more than the Pittsburgh Penguins could have asked from him and scored 15 goals and 30 points in his first 33 games. This pace of course didn't keep up once the top two centermen of the Penguins returned to the lineup, but Rodrigues proved he can step up if needed and be a big offensive factor. Despite the deservedness of a raise for him, the offseason is at a point where nobody is going to get very much on a contract.

Milano also had time as a to-six winger last season playing alongside Trevor Zegras on the Anaheim Ducks before the team decided not to qualify him. Milano had a career year scoring 14 goals and 34 points in 66 games. He is only 26 years old and has always had the potential. The Flames are filled with talent and he would fit in great on any of the top three lines of the Flames. The team would also be able to sign a player who could very well put up 40-45 points for very cheap.

If the Flames can land either of these forwards for $1.5 million or cheaper, they will have topped off an incredible offseason.
