NHL Rumors: New York Islanders Trying to Trade Forward

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the New York Islanders are trying to move out forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau. The move is likely a ripple effect as multiple reports have surfaced stating Nazem Kadri and the Islanders have a handshake agreement in place.

Pageau is 29 years old and signed under contract through the 2025-26 season making $5 million against the cap. The versatile forward holds a modified no-trade clause which protects him from 16 teams of his choice.

Last season Pageau recorded 18 goals and 39 points in 77 games. He's been banged up the last few seasons and hasn't played a full season since 2016-17 when he was a member of the Ottawa Senators.

The Islanders have just over $11 million in salary cap space and have young defenseman Noah Dobson to sign. Kadri is likely going to sign for roughly $6.5 million per season and will help the Islanders offense. Pageau is more of a defensive center but at his price, may be hard to move. We'll see how 'Uncle Lou' handles this one...
