Calgary Flames Newcomer Hopes to Sign Extension Before Season

While speaking with Eric Francis, MacKenzie Weegar's agent Matthew Ebbs noted that the 28-year-old defenseman wants to sign an extension with the Calgary Flames before the start of the regular season to avoid it from becoming a distraction.

Weegar was one of the notable players that the Flames acquired from the Florida Panthers in the Matthew Tkachuk blockbuster this offseason. Weegar is entering the final year of his deal, but it is clear that he wants to stay in Calgary for a long time. If he does in fact sign an extension, having both Jonathan Huberdeau and Weegar signed long-term will make the return a home run.

Weegar is coming off of a very good season that saw him score eight goals and record 44 points in 80 games. Overall, he provides solid offense from the point while remaining reliable defensively. Therefore, this is a player who the Flames should keep around. Let's see if the pair can strike a deal before the campaign starts from here.
