Former Maple Leafs Forward Signs with Islanders

The New York Islanders have announced they've signed forward Nikita Soshnikov to a one-year contract worth $750,000.

Soshnikov has spent the past four seasons playing in the KHL and was a former free-agent signee of the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he spent his first two and half NHL seasons before being shipped to the St Louis Blues.

The grinding winger has appeared in 87 total NHL games, registering eight goals and eight assists. He'll be in tough to make the Islanders but may be able to forecheck his way into a fourth-line role.

Soshnikov is 28 years old and recorded 16 points in 33 games last season split between CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk.
