NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Trying to Sign Free-Agent Jake Virtanen

Free-agent forward Jake Virtanen is looking to hit reset on his career and it sounds like the 2022-23 season will be his stage. His off-ice legal troubles appear to be behind him, and Virtanen is ready to focus on hockey.

Now he just needs a team as the 26-year-old is drawing interest from a number of teams around the league. Virtanen will have to settle for a PTO, however he won't be picky as all he wants is a chance to play and prove himself once again as an NHL forward.

According to Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED, the Washington Capitals are having internal discussions about adding Virtanen and may be in the picture this weekend. He's expected to make a decision before training camps open next week.

There's also been talks about the Edmonton Oilers, however to this point those appear to be false. The other team in play for Virtanen's rights are the Calgary Flames. The former sixth overall pick of the Vancouver Canucks has appeared in 317 career NHL games, recording 100 points. We'll see if 101 comes in 2022-23.
