NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Haven't Had Extension Talks With Winger

According to Stu Cowan, the Montreal Canadiens have yet to begin extension talks with young forward Cole Caufield.

Caufield is about to enter the final season of his entry-level contract and will certainly be in line for a notable raise from here. Although the 21-year-old struggled during the beginning of his first full season with the Canadiens and even was demoted to the AHL, he turned things around during the second half. In his final 34 games of the year, he scored an impressive 20 goals and recorded 33 points. Needless to say, he showed he has the potential to be a star and will be looking to continue that in 2022-23.

With Caufield being a restricted free agent when his contract expires, the Canadiens do not need to rush signing him to an extension. We will need to see what the Wisconsin native does this season, as it will impact how much cash he gets next summer.
