NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Having Extension Talks With Goalie

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the Montreal Canadiens are in discussion with Jake Allen on a multi-year contract extension.

Allen is entering the final season of his contract and is eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer because of it. Yet, given this report by Weekes, it appears that the 32-year-old is at least open to the possibility of sticking around in Montreal for several more seasons.

Ultimately, it would make sense for both parties to keep this relationship going. Carey Price's playing future is in jeopardy due to his injury trouble, so Allen could maintain a prominent role on the Canadiens if he elects to re-sign there. Furthermore, it would also give the Canadiens more time to develop Cayden Primeau.

In 35 games this past season with the Canadiens, Allen sported a 9-20-4 record, 3.30 GAA, and .905 SV%.
