NHL Rumors: Rangers Trying To Trade Young Defenceman

The New York Rangers sped through their re-tool, and ended up making the most of the talent they had in 2021/22, as they made it all the way to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and in 2022/23, they are definitely expecting to take it one step further. In order to do that, it's likely that they'll need to make a few more moves however, and according to reports, the team are now trying to actively trade young Swedish defenceman Nils Lundkvist, drafted 28th overall by New York in 2018.

He's struggled to catch on at the NHL level so far, but at 22-years of age, he's still got plenty of growing to do. Unfortunately, the Rangers are looking to win now, and if moving Lundkvist, packaged with another young player and a pick can get them help down the middle or on the top-6, it's a risk that the Rangers should be taking right now.

Ultimately, with the emergence of Braden Schneider and Zac Jones, along with the solid top-two D pairings, it's unlikely that Lundkvist would have found his way into this lineup anytime soon, so it seems that this is just a logical next step as the Rangers look to chase their first Cup since 1994.
