St. Louis Blues Defenseman Out Long Term

St. Louis Blues defenseman Marco Scandella is set to have hip surgery on Tuesday. He will be re-evaluated in six months, which means he will be out until at least late March.

This is very tough to hear, as this means that almost all of Scandella's 2022-23 season will be taken away from him. This is not even including any potential setbacks during his recovery, so there's a chance he will miss more time, too.

A trip to the LTIR is surely on the way for Scandella, and this will free up $3.275 million of cap space for the Blues. Perhaps this will open the door for the Blues to bring in a depth defenseman before the start of the season.

Scandella appeared in 70 games this past season, where he had three goals, 11 assists, and a plus-17 rating. Although he will never dominate offensively, the Blues will miss his steady defensive play while out. Here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery and can return in March.
