NHL Rumors: Canadiens Could Flip Monahan For Great Return

The Montreal Canadiens look to be in prime position to get another first round pick coming to them in regards to Sean Monahan. The Calgary Flames sent the Canadiens a first round pick in order to take his contract off their hands this past offseason, but the Canadiens can flip him at the trade deadline for another first round pick, per Eric Engels.

A healthy Monahan with a fresh start in Montreal is having a strong start to the season with two goals and three points in the first five games. He is also playing over 18 minutes a game and is on the top line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield at this time.

Monahan was once a very prolific scorer for the Flames recording 58-plus points in five consecutive seasons which included an 82-point campaign in 2018-19. He has been effective this season and the Canadiens hope that he can keep it up in order to send the upcoming unrestricted free agent to a contender for their first round pick. If this can happen, the Canadiens will add a sixth first round pick in the next three drafts and be set up nicely for the future.
