NHL Rumors: Kings Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

It has already been established that the Los Angeles Kings are aiming to trade a right-handed defenseman. This is because they have a surplus at the position due to the rise of Brandt Clarke, Sean Durzi, and even Jordan Spence. As a result, a move should be on the horizon, and Matt Roy stands out as a prime trade candidate because of it.

Roy has developed into a solid defenseman for the Kings over the last few years. In 2021-22, he reached a new career-high with 21 points in 67 games and has followed it up this season with three goals and four points in his first eight games. As a result, the 27-year-old's value is fairly decent, and the Kings could get a solid return for him if they elect to trade him over a player like, say, Sean Walker.

Teams in need of some help on the right side should call the Kings about Roy. Yet, they would need to be okay with the fact that he's more than a rental, as he carries a $3.15 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season.
