NHL Rumors: 2 Kings Defensemen Who Could Be Traded Soon

The Los Angeles Kings have done well to start the 2022-23 season and are second in the division. But they have a problem. They have far too many right shot defencemen on their roster all fighting for playing time. It's not necessarily a bad problem as they can use one or two of them as trade bait.

Drew Doughty isn't going anywhere and has the top pairing locked down, but after that the Kings have had Matt Roy, Sean Walker, Sean Durzi, and Brandt Clarke all spend time playing right defence. There have been a number of adjustments already made this season.

Clarke got nine games with the Kings and showed he is just about NHL-ready. This is impressive considering he's 19 years old. He has a huge part in the future of the Kings and it's great that he's shown a high level of talent at such a young age for a defenceman.

Durzi was scratched for a game earlier in the season after a breakout season in 2021-22. He has been forced over to the left side at times to be able to fit all of their defence in the lineup. It's never ideal for a defender to play their off-side, and he will do better playing back over on the right.

So the two defenders who could be on the move are Roy and Walker. While Walker is the obvious trade candidate since he's the less impactful of the four, but Roy is also an interesting piece that Frank Sevavalli brought up as a potential trade candidate. The future looks very good with Doughty, Durzi, and Clarke, so the Kings must decide how fast they are going to proceed with trades for the other two.
