NHL Rumors: Sharks Forward Becoming Trade Candidate

The San Jose Sharks are open for business and players like Erik Karlsson, Timo Meier, and Logan Couture can be had for the right prices. Yet, according to Curtis Palshelka, one under-the-radar trade candidate is Matt Nieto.

Now, Nieto does not come with the same excitement as San Jose's top players, but he is a pending UFA who carries a very affordable $800,000 cap hit. Naturally, this makes him an appealing target for teams looking for a bit of forward depth. Furthermore, the 29-year-old is having a decent start to the season, as he has a goal and four points in 12 games.

Nevertheless, as we get closer to the deadline, don't be surprised to see Nieto get traded. He is exactly the kind of cheap rental that contenders always make a push for, so let's see where he ends up going from here.
